A member of The Florida Bar for almost 25 years, Doricia “Dori” Miller Rivas is committed to serving the public. Dori received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and her Master of Arts Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She earned her Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude, from Stetson University in Gulfport, Florida. While at Stetson, Dori was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in the study of jurisprudence. Dori was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1993.
Dori Rivas is experienced in multiple areas of law, both civil and criminal. She was an associate attorney at Clayton & McCulloh, P. A., Maitland, where she practiced in the areas of lien foreclosure litigation and homeowner association law. Dori has practiced insurance defense/workers’ compensation law while an associate attorney at Kelley Kronenberg, Orlando. After working for the Law Offices of Hernan Castro, representing the Florida Department of Revenue in child support and paternity cases, Dori demonstrated her commitment to public service by joining the Office of the Public Defender, Ninth Judicial Circuit, in Orlando. Dori was an Assistant Public Defender for three years, representing the public in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases. While an Assistant Public Defender, Dori received the Best Advocate Award, Group 3, for outstanding performance in the areas of voir dire, opening statements, cross examination, direct examination and closing arguments at the Spring Defender College. For the past ten years, Dori has managed her own law practice, The Rivas Law Firm, P. A. in Winter Park, concentrating on criminal defense, while also handling cases in family court and landlord tenant disputes.
Dori was honored to serve as the Chair of the Traffic Court Rules Committee of The Florida Bar, 2016-2017. She also served as a volunteer attorney Guardian Ad Litem through the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association.
Dori is admitted to The Florida Bar, the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, and the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida. She is a member of the Orange County Bar Association and the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, as well as the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce.
Dori has been married to attorney Alain Rivas for 23 years and is the proud mother of Amanda Rivas, a licensed Florida EMT and pre-medical student at Emory University.
